* New Apple II Publications Website

We start off this month with some of our own news. Finally, after months
of slack. . . er, planning, we have opened up and combined a new World Wide
Web page for the Apple II online publications I've been involved with over
the years: _GEnieLamp A2_ and _GEnieLamp A2Pro_, _A2 News and Notes_, and
_The Lamp!_, with complete archives available:

http://lamp.a2central.com/

This replaces the long out of date pages at http://lamp.sheppyware.net/ and
http://people.delphi.com/rsuenaga/

* Syndicomm.com News

A few bits of notes from Syndicomm.com

** A2Central.com 1st Anniversary

The total solution for all your Apple II needs on the Web, A2Central.com,
celebrated its first anniversary in June. Virtual ice cream and cake were
had by all on June 4, 2001. Happy birthday A2!

** A2People.com Domain to Lapse

The A2People.com domain, where members of the original A2Central.com online
service (now known as Syndicomm.com) got their email and built their
Websites, is about to lapse. Simply replace A2People.com with
Syndicomm.com and you should be fine.

** CoPilot Approaches

Long time Apple II Geek Ryan Suenaga (hey, that's me!) posted the following
message to the A2 Bulletin Board on Syndicomm.com:

Category 10,  Topic 57
Message 34         Sun Jun 17, 2001
A2.RYAN [Head Geek] at 21:24 PDT

Testing something here. . . see below if interested.

Alpha Testing CoPilot v2.55 and ProTERM 3.1
Offline Syndicomm.com Message Manager

'Nuff said for those of you who are familiar with the long lost offline
reader for Genie and Compuserve.

** Syndicomm Slogan Contest

Syndicomm.com owner Eric Shepherd announced a slogan contest for
Syndicomm.com members, with the winner getting a t shirt. Contest was
scheduled to end July 7, 2001.

** A2Central.com Mousepad Sale

A2Central.com mousepads were on sale through June for $10.99.

* Delphi Keeps Changing

A few notes on the former first home of the Apple II faithful, Delphi:

** Delphi to charge for personal Websites

Up to now, Delphi had been making World Wide Web storage available free of
charge for many users. While it was somewhat limited in its usefullness,
it was worth every penny. Delphi announced in June that it would begin
charging for personal Websites.

For details, see http://www.delphi.com/service/start/.

** Delphi to discontinue forum Websites

Many forums on Delphi.com that existed before its current Web only
incarnation (such as A2 and A2Pro) not only had Web based message boards
and chat, but also a forum Website (the A2Pro Website, for instance,
instructs people on filetype requests). Delphi has announced that these
forum Websites will be going away in the near future. Of course, Delphi
previously announced that textside mail would be going away some time ago,
and it still works as well as it did before the announcement. . .

* Steve Weyrich Opens apple2history.com

Apple II historian Steve Weyrich has a new Website dedicated to his highly
acclaimed documentation of the history of the Apple II. See it now at
http://www.apple2history.com/.

* Linux ProDOS File System Driver Alpha Ready

Matt Jensen has announced the availibility of an alpha level Linux ProDOS
file system driver, which will allow mounting of ProDOS disks, including
images.

For more information, see http://www.obvion.com/matt/prodos/.

* KFest Approaches

Just days before KansasFest 2001 rocks the Apple II world. In fact, I'm
writing this on the train between Tracy, California (home of Eric and Sarah
Shepherd as well as the world famous Syndicomm.com server farm) and
Oceanside, California (home of Tony Diaz and the Apple II Museum), having a
great time and getting ready to KFest all night long for a week.

** Max Jones roasters announced

The Grand Gouda of KFest, Steve "Godzilla" Gozdziewski, announced that
KFest Roast Master of Ceremonies Ken Gagne has selected his team of
roasters, including _Juiced.GS_ contributors Eric "Sheppy" Shepherd (also
owner of Syndicomm and programmer of countless Apple II programs), Geoff
Weiss (programmer of gwFTP, Spectrum Internet Suite, and many other Apple
IIgs programs), Ryan Suenaga (publisher of _The Lamp!_, editor of _A2 News
and Notes_, and former Chief Sysop of A2 on Syndicomm.com), as well as the
former Big Cheese of KFest, Cindy Adams (notorious for short sheeting
beds).

Editor's comment: Ken has taken his job as M.C. -very- seriously and has
done a very thorough job of coordinating his team and getting them to
prepare early. All of that said, good luck, Max--you'll need it.

* ZFest (not KFest, ZFest)

No, not KFest. ZFest is a computer show in Europe for disciples of the
ancient Z-80 processor (usually running CP/M, the closest thing to a
"standard" operating systems before Microsoft became the Borg). Held in
Europe, you can find more information on this unique conference at:

http://www.zfest.de/

* Private Alpha Testing of Apple DOS File System for Macintosh

Frustrated by the inability to use your old Aple II disks with your
Macintosh? An alpha level extension that allows multiple Apple II file
systems (including DOS 3.3, Pascal, CP/M, as well as ProDOS) to be mounted
on the Macintosh is reported to currently currently in private alpha
testing. More on this as details become available.

* Help Wanted

Finally, we still need help here at A2NandN! I would like to have a new
editor on board by the end of the year 2001. If you are interested, please
email me at a2.ryan@syndicomm.com.
